In 2025 our exhibition at the Centrale Markthal has come to an end, but it continues to move forward — and last week, at Inholland Amsterdam, it turned out to be surprisingly close in digital form. In the Immersive Room, we came together to explore the first steps in how the exhibition can be revisited and experienced digitally.

Hip hop flyers… beyond the stories and legendary spots in the big cities, it was also local grassroots initiatives in the late ’80s that shaped the movement and culture across the Netherlands.

Hip hop flyers from parties at Buurthuis De Karre (Groningen), Poppodium De Nije (Hoogezand), Dancing De Lantaarn and De BPS (IJmuiden) and De Dam (…).

This Is Not a Picture! In the tradition of the Old Dutch Masters, RHONE (RIP) created a series of drawings depicting historically significant pieces. During his lifetime, he never showed these works; they were discovered after his passing. These drawings were exhibited for the first time during the celebration of 35 years of WOW and the launch of their Graffiti Manifesto.

Shown here is the drawing of the Wicked O Wack train from 1990, regarded as one of the awesome style burners on Dutch steel. The drawing and Graffiti Manifesto #1 have been acquired by the Dutch Graffiti Library to safeguard this unique heritage.

Crooked Teeth in an Octopus’ Garden plays with imagery and contrasts, much like the artist’s work itself. “Crooked Teeth” evokes strength and rawness, while an “Octopus’ Garden” suggests a twisting, organic space in which everything is in constant motion.

Selone, Zandvoort aan Zee 90s.
During the 1990s, this location functioned as a terminus for Intercity services from Maastricht and Heerlen, offering direct rail connections to the seaside. The yard to the right were occasionally used to stable trains between services.

One week ago, SHOE’S BLACKBOOK was presented by @nielsshoemeulman and @ruyzdael_publishing.

The launch, held both inside and outside the walls of the @stadsarchief in Amsterdam, brought together renowned writers, kindred spirits and enthusiasts. It was a fantastic moment of recognition and, above all, a collective acknowledgement of the writer and artist Niels SHOE Meulman.

The book not only offers a unique insight into his work and the stories behind it, but also looks back at the development of a writer who has changed European graffiti and inspired many of us to become who we are today.

Thank you for sharing this unique piece of graffiti heritage. It was and is a blast!

In photos accompanying articles and interviews about hip-hop in music magazines or newspapers, the groups were always at the center of the image. The urban backdrops with graffiti-covered walls usually revealed just enough glimpses of bits, arrows, or elements to draw inspiration from.

In front of the Swiss Cottage Library in London, we spotted a DRAX PFB — the venue where we are taking part in a three-day summit called The Europe Challenge.

This programme brings together teams from libraries and communities across Europe to address their challenges by developing, sharing, and implementing creative solutions.

Dutch Graffiti Library has formed a partnership with Inholland University of Applied Sciences, the ARC Research Centre, and OBA Next Lab Sluisbuurt to digitally capture the expo from Centrale Markthal Amsterdam and bring it to other cities through an immersive experience.

To be continued..

Yes it’s true .. we are leaving the Centrale Markthal and move forward! The last day to visit us there is Sunday, November 30, 2025.

Over the past 1,5 year, we’ve learned a lot about what it means to shape our dream in one fixed location. We discovered how important accessibility is, how your surroundings influence what you do and how valuable the people around you are. We’ve been positively surprised by the strong commitment from the graffiti community, the interest from people in the fields of culture, heritage and media, and the opportunities that on our way now.

This made clear that we’ve to move forward. We will focus on joining existing initiatives, starting new projects and appearing in places where you wouldn’t immediately expect us. Keep an eye on our updates - exciting new things are coming in 2026!

From content and historical perspective, this is one of the most exceptional items in our collection. It comprises a compilation—including detailed descriptions—of Xerox copies of graffiti-related articles dating from 1967 to the mid-1980s. We believe this research was done by René Westhoff conducted in preparation for a book or publication, as each document is annotated with a handwritten date and a typed source reference.

Vandalisme by Tarek Ben Yakhlef. The book represents an extension of Paris Tonkar, a sort of volume 2, which delves into the early years of graffiti vandalism in Paris (1984-1996).

A lot of previously unseen photos of various locations, pieces captured from different angles, close-ups and shots showing more of the surroundings, with writers in action or posing in front of their work. A beautiful book by @tarek.artist that showcases the culture in the best possible way. Unfortunately, it’s written in French…

Words were adopted, and photos of album covers became a source of inspiration for kids in the mid-1980s.
